Petition to Ban Ron Paul Withdrawn?
Friday, May 18, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com

Breaking ...

Has Saul Anuzis had enough? The Michigan GOP big had wanted to ban presidential candidate Ron Paul from further debates. But an Internet wildfire may have derailed his efforts.

FNMN feedbacker Tim writes: "I contacted the Michigan GOP early this morning & was told Saul Anuzis was backing down & would be officially withdrawing his petition. Can anyone confirm this? Grassroots apparently turned into a grassfire on the neocons & instead of protecting their home they ran to hide. If they keep losing battles in their War Against Ron Paul, we might gain the White House for him yet!"

A petition objecting to a debate ban of Republican Party presidential candidate Ron Paul has reached almost 10,000 as of the morning of May 18 EST.

The petition may be seen here:

Anuzis was angered by remarks made two days ago, in the second Republican debate, when Paul (R-TX) claimed that U.S. provocations in Iraq contributed to the current "war on terror" The remarks proved controversial, drawing immediate criticism came from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani who rebutted Paul's remarks during the debate. Since then, the remarks have drawn both fire and praise from various groups.

Anuzis' email seems to be: sanuzis@migop.org

In addition to this petition, others are being organized, including, apparently, one hosted by alternative news reporter Alex Jones.

The movement opposing a Ron Paul debate ban is extraordinary, and purely a function of the Internet. For every comment and signature on these petitions, there are probably thousands sympathetic to such sentiments – a formidable and growing force of liberal and conservative libertarians - many of whom probably have no idea that is what they are.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

First, a grand thanks to each of you for being such great patriots in your response efforts to Saul Anuzis' announcement of his petition to the RNC to have Congressman Ron Paul barred from future debates because Mr. Anuzis believes Congressman Paul's statements are "out there" and "out of whack".

Today, the RNC headquarter office is informing callers that Mr. Anuzis is not proceeding with his petition; however, this private claim is not sufficient. Mr. Anuzis made his initial statements in the media, and Mr. Anuzis needs to take immediate steps to rectify the situation with a public media release. American citizens must not yield until Mr. Anuzis fully complies.

We are asking for your immediate participation in making polite calls and sending emails to the MI GOP HQ and the RNC specifically demanding that Saul issue a media release that:

1) Withdraws the petition to ban Ron Paul from future GOP debates,

2) Acknowledges the post-debate polls (ABC, MSNBC, FOX) had Paul either winning or running a close 2nd and from the demonstration of responses to Mr. Anuzis office this week from across the nation, there is a true American citizen interest in Congressman Paul's positions and keeping Paul in the debates,

3) Apologizes to the Ron Paul campaign and the primary voters nationwide who were the targets of his unilateral action to deny them a real choice on foreign policy alternatives come election day.
